Research shows that young carers do not achieve as highly as their peers academically. This can be due to issues such as lower school attendance rates and ongoing anxiety that impacts on their ability to concentrate. Obviously this can greatly affect the future of the young carer and their lifestyle choices.
In our experience schools are often unaware of which pupils have caring responsibilities and it can be difficult for pupils to ask for support if they are not confident that their school will be understanding of their situation.
We are very happy to work with schools and provide awareness training about the issues that young carers face.
We often work with young carers in the school setting and are skilled at liaising with school staff to ensure that young carers get the individual support they need to help them achieve their full potential.
